Edinburgh Castle
Probably the most famous castle in Scotland, Edinburgh Castle commands an excellent defensive position on top of Castle Rock.
The site has been a defensive one since at least the end of the 6th century, when a fort here was mentioned in the old Welsh poem the Gododdin of Aneurin.
