Alyth
This Class II cross slab was found at the Established Church Manse in Alyth in 1887 when the ground was levelled in front of the door. It now stands in the porch of Alyth High Kirk.
The Established Church Manse was built near the ruins of the old kirk, perhaps suggesting that this stone once stood in the old kirkyard. A slab of grey schist, it measures around 1.37m tall by around 0.45m wide with a thickness up to 0.13m.
On the front face is an outline Latin cross defined by a sunken groove. The base of the cross features a slender tenon and between each of the arms and the shaft are large incised spirals. The cross itself is filled with incised interlace of a simple design. The left side of this face is damaged.
The rear face has also suffered damage on the corresponding right side meaning the carving is incomplete, however it was clearly a double disc and Z-rod. The interior of the double disc features a hatched pattern and the left end of the Z-rod is a simple leaf-shape with no foliation.
