Whitsome (site of)
A tower named Whytsome is marked on the Gordon’s mid-17th century map to the south of Blackadder Castle.
The tower may have been located somewhere within the village of Whitsome however Roy shows Whitsom Vouts to the south of the village on his mid-18th century map and Whitsome Vaults appears on the other side of the road from Whitsomehill on Blackadder’s late-18th century map. I’ve placed the site of the castle here for now pending further research.
In 1493 Alexander Hepburn, son and heir of Alexander Hepburn of Whitsome, was found to be illegally occupying and manuring the third part of the half of the lands of Midhope which John Martin’s widow, Christian Martin, had the right to occupy and manure as per a contract she signed with James Livingston of Mannerston.
