There was once a castle at Lintrathen but nothing of it now remains and its exact location has been lost.
In the 13th century the castle was owned by Sir Alan Durward and it remained in the Durward family until the early 15th century when the Lintrathen heiress, Isabel Durward, married Sir Walter Ogilvy.
Sir Walter Ogilvy of Lintrathen built Airlie Castle in 1432.
