Howpasley (site of)

Howpasley was a tower belonging to the Scott family but nothing of it now remains.

In the 15th century the laird of Howpasley was Alexander Scott of Abington and Howpasley, the second son of Sir Walter Scott of Branxholme and Buccleuch and Margaret Cockburn of Henderland.

On the 10th of November 1543 the tower of Howpasley was burned by the Armstrongs under a mandate from Sir Thomas Wharton, the English Warden of the West Marches.

Howpasley remained with the Scotts of Buccleuch until the estate was sold by the Duke of Buccleuch in 1921.
