Old Castle of Knock (site of)
There may have been a motte here, belonging to the Earls of Mar in the 12th century and the Bissets in the 13th century, although its exact location is unknown.
A site on Craig of the Knock has been proposed although no evidence of a motte has been found. There are two mounds within the vicinity of the later Knock Castle, one to the east and this one to the south-west which perhaps seems like a more likely contender. It is also possible that Knock Castle, which is built on a mound, occupies the site of the original Castle of Knock.
