Fothringham (possible) (site of)
There was a house at Fothringham in the 16th century belonging to the Fotheringham family but what form it took is unknown.
In the early 16th century the Fotheringhams inherited the barony of Inverarity and are said to have built themselves a house shortly after. It is likely that this would have had defensive features although this is speculation.
The house is said to have been built on the site of the old Kirkton after the church was moved.
A new house is said to have been built nearby in 1754 but was later demolished when another new house was built in 1861. This last house was demolished in 1953
The supposed site of the oldest house now falls within a field belonging to Fothringham Home Farm.
