Denmuir (possible) (site of)
Denmuir may be the site of an early castle.
Sir John of Dundemor, or Sir John of Denmuir, is on record in the mid-13th century.
Denmuir or Dunmore was owned by the Paterson family during the reign of James III.
In 1590 it was referred to as Dunmure-Paterson, presumably to distinguish it from the nearby property of Ayton which was referred to at the same time as Dunmure-Aytoun.
Incorporated into a steading is a small carved oak panel carrying the arms of Paterson of Dunmore and the date 1635.
I have placed the site of the castle at the steading pending further research.
