A castle belonging to the Black Douglas family stood on a mound here and probably dated back to the 13th century.
It was captured by the English during the Wars of Independence but was in Scottish hands in 1307.
The tower was destroyed by James II in 1450.
Craig Douglas Castle is in the parish of Yarrow and the county of Selkirkshire.
