Burnhouse (site of)
Burnhouse was a tower that was extant in the 15th century but nothing of it now remains.
In 1296 Robert del Brunhus, a tenant of the Bishop of St Andrews, signed the Ragman Roll at Berwick-upon-Tweed.
By the 15th century the property was owned by the Hoppringles of Hoppringle. In December 1494 Alexander Hoppringill of that Ilk, who had succeeded his father while still a minor, brought a complaint before the Lords of Session against John Borthwick of Crookston and Mr Thomas Borthwick for the destruction of the tower house and place of Burnhouse.
The exact site of the tower is unknown and around 1810 a new house was built.
