The historic map is an Ordnance Survey map from 1919 to 1947, and is provided by the National Library of Scotland

The current Castle of Towie Barclay was completed in 1593, although a castle at Towie Barclay is mentioned in 1558 and 1587 so it may have replaced an earlier building. It is believed to have been built by a master mason who was also responsible for Craig Castle, Delgatie Castle and Gight Castle.

The castle was extensively remodelled in 1792, and in the 1960s was renovated and is now occupied.
