Howden

Tvedia cum vicecomitatu Etterico Forestae etiam Selkirkae dictus
Joan Blaeu, Amsterdam, 1654map image courtesy of NLS

There was once a tower at Howden, likely a successor to Howden motte, however its exact location has now been lost.

The tower of Houdenn is shown to the north-west of the motte and close to the confluence of the Ettrick Water and the Howden Burn on Blaeu’s mid-17th century map, based on Pont’s late 16th century work.

I have placed the site of the tower at Howden farm pending further research.
