Kilwhinan Castle (site of)
Kilwhinan Castle is said to have been built by the Comyn family some time before 1325 between the River Oich and the River Tarff at the south end of Loch Ness.
The tower seems to be marked on Pont’s late 16th century map to the east of the Kirk of Kilchuma.
Near the site is a section of rubble wall pierced by gunloops which is all that’s left of Kilwhinan Barracks, built between 1718 and 1719 and ultimately replaced by Fort Augustus.
