Castleton (site of)
In 1582 or 1586 the tower and lands of Castleton were added to the Arniston House estate by Sir James Dundas, who, along with his father George Dundas and their respective wives, bought them from John Elphinstone of Schank.
Earlier in the 16th century it is said to have been owned by the Bryson family. The village of Castleton grew up around the castle, which is said to have stood on the site of the present farmhouse, although nothing now survives of the older building.
