Castlebank

Annandiae praefectura, Vulgo, The Stewartrie of Annandail
Joan Blaeu, Amsterdam, 1654map image courtesy of NLS

Castlebank is marked as a tower named Castelbak on Blaeu’s mid-17th century map of Annandale.

In 1525 James V granted various lands to John Carruthers de Holmendis and his wife, Blanche Murray, including the six merk land of Castelbank in Egilphecene.

In 1827 the heirs of James Miller of Castlebank owned “Part of Kirkconnel” valued at 12 merks.

I have placed the location of the tower at Castlebank farm pending further research.
