Redwells
There was once a defensive building at Redwells although no traces of it remain.
In the 19th century the building was described as “ancient and extensive”, quadrangular in form with vaulted chambers at ground level pierced by either slit windows or loop holes. At one end of the building was what was described as a “well-paved barn” which when demolished was found to have walls “of amazing thickness, and of uncommon strength.”
I have placed the site of the building at Redwells farm pending further research.
