Little Pinkerton (possible) (site of)
Little Pinkerton is the site of a possible castle which belonged to the Pinkerton family.
Around 1318 John de Pinkirtoun witnessed a charter by Hugh de Gourley, lord of Merkil, granting to Robert de Lawedir land within the town and tenement of Popil.
In 1493 Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll, was granted the lands of Mekill and Litill Pinkartone and 6 merkland of Fullfurd as heir of his late father, Colin.
Litle Pinkertoun is marked as a tower on Adair’s late 17th century map.
I have placed the site of the tower of Little Pinkerton farmhouse pending further research.
