Craigtoun Park is an early 20th century mansion built on or near the site of a 17th century house belonging to the Melville family.
The new house replaced an earlier 19th century one by James Gillespie Graham which may have incorporated parts of a house built in 1698 for General George Melville of Strathkinness. However Craigton is marked as a tower on Gordon’s map of 1642 and as the tower of Craigtoun on Blaeu’s map of 1654 suggesting an earlier and perhaps defensive origin for the property.
A doocot and sundial in the grounds are both thought to date from the 17th century.
