Castle Hill
On the south bank of the Kittoch Water, Castle Hill is a natural mound which has been extended on the south-west side to create a platform for a castle.
Measuring approximately 10m high, with a roughly oval top measuring 24m by 17m, it was the predecessor to The Peel, and was most probably a Douglas stronghold.
Apart from the mound, nothing now remains of the castle which once stood here, although there are apparently traces of foundations on a 9m wide causeway to the south, suggesting the faint remains of a possible gatehouse.
Where is Castle Hill?
