Annan Castle

Annan Castle was an early 12th century motte and bailey castle built by the de Brus family.
David I granted land here to the de Brus family and soon after 1124 they began building a timber and earthwork castle. The motte is around 15m in diameter and stands to a height of around 6m.

The flat area of the bailey is around 260m in length and is separated from the motte by a ditch.
