Dumbreck Castle once stood around 120 metres north-east of Mains of Dumbreck farms, and while nothing now remains on the site, some architectural fragments have been built into later buildings.

A carved fragment of stone is built into the north wall of the farm outbuilding to the east of the farmhouse, while the left hand part of a gun loop is built into the east-north-east gable of the farmhouse itself.

The gun loop is a distinctive triple hole design which is also a feature of nearby Tolquhon Castle, suggesting that they may have been built by the same person.
