Ardrossan Castle

Ardrossan Castle is a ruined 15th century castle which belonged to the Montgomery family.

In 1438 a marriage contract was drawn up between Alexander Montgomerie of Ardrossan, 1st Lord Montgomerie, and Sir Alan Stewart of Darnley, 2nd Lord of Aubigny and Concressault, for the marriage of Sir Alan’s son, Sir John Stewart, and Lord Montgomerie’s daughter, Margaret Montgomerie, however it seems that the marriage did not proceed. In 1460 Sir John married Margaret Montgomerie, daughter of Alexander Montgomerie, Master of Montgomerie, and granddaughter of Alexander Montgomerie, 1st Lord Montgomerie.
