Abbotrule was a castle which was later replaced by a mansion however nothing of it now remains.
A tower named Abbotroull is marked on Pont’s late 16th century map of part of Teviotdale.
The tower was incorporated into or replaced by a new house in 1658 which was further extended in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Abbotrule House was demolished in 1956.
