Today was the last day of the Edinburgh Festival, and to mark the occasion there was a fireworks display in Princes Street Gardens, accompanied by classical music from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
It always gets busy early as people try to get the best positions, so we arrived in daylight and watched as night fell over Edinburgh Castle.

After several tantalising test flares were fired, eventually the main event started, the orchestra starting quietly as the first fireworks lit up the Castle Esplanade.

We were treated to a wonderful display, the explosions getting bigger, higher and more colourful, going off in time to the music.

And that was it for another year – well for the Festival at least, not so long now until the Hogmanay fireworks….
