Clan Bruce

The history of Clan Bruce

The clan and surname of Bruce come from the French names “de Brus” or “de Bruis”, which derived from the ancestral lands of what is now known as Brix in Normandy.

The earliest known ancestor was Robert de Brus, who travelled to England early in the 11th century following Henry I of England’s conquest of Normandy in 1106. He would later be created the 1st Lord of Annandale in 1124 by David I of Scotland.
