Ben Vrackie & Loch Tummel

We headed north today to climb Ben Vrackie. The weather was glorious – not too warm, but beautiful clear blue skies as we started the walk around to the base of the mountain. Ben Vrackie At the base of Ben Vrackie a stiff breeze was whipping up some small waves on Loch a’ Choire. Loch a' Choire After the loch the path gets a lot steeper as you start climbing Ben Vrackie itself. But the effort is worth it, as turning around gives you amazing views over Strath Tummel, with Loch Tummel nestling between the hills. Loch Tummel Climbing a bit further then looking down at Loch a’ Choire far below shows just how high you’ve come. Loch a' Choire At the summit there are stunning views over Strath Tummel and Strath Tay. On a clear day it’s possible to see as far as Ben Nevis to the west and the Law in Dundee to the east. The view north to the Beinn a’ Ghlo range is particularly impressive. Beinn a' Ghlo By the time we got back down we’d built up quite a hunger, so we called in to the Moulin Hotel for a welcome tea, before heading along to the Queen’s View on Loch Tummel to catch the end of the sunset over Schiehallion.
