Northern Isles car hire guide

Obviously, by their very nature, the Northern Isles of Orkney and Shetland can only be reached by sea or air, so it makes sense that the main car hire locations are grouped around the airports and ferry terminals.

On Orkney’s Mainland there is car hire at Kirkwall Airport and also in the centre of Kirkwall, close to the ferry terminal.

Shetland’s Mainland has more car hire locations than Orkney, with rentals available at three different airports – Tingwall Airport, a few kilometres to the north-west of Lerwick, Scatsta Airport towards the north end of the island, and Sumburgh Airport at the very southern tip.

Visitors arriving into Lerwick by ferry will find car hire available at the Lerwick Ferry Terminal.
