Maerl, which is a type of seaweed only found in unpolluted waters, and other intriguing flora and fauna can be found in this unspoilt area. Gelnuig is a tiny community with a population of just over 30, and is situated in the Parish of Moidart in remote and secluded West Lochaber, which includes the neighbouring settlements of Samalaman and Alt Ruadh. There are only 25 dwellings in the village – and four of those are holiday homes. If you’re looking for a peaceful antidote to the hustle and bustle of modern living, this is it.
