Gurness 1

This Class I symbol stone was found within the Broch of Gurness complex and is now housed within the site museum.

During excavation of the broch in 1935 this stone was found on a wall flanking the pathway leading to the broch between broch buildings 3 and 4 at a height of around 0.7m from ground level. Measuring around 0.27m by 0.19m and 0.29m thick it is lightly carved with a rectangle, a disc with indented rectangle and an indented rectangle.
