Sauchrie Castle

Caricta Borealis, vulgo, The northpart of Carrick
Joan Blaeu, Amsterdam, 1654map image courtesy of NLS

There was once a castle at Sauchrie of which some ruins were still visible in the mid-19th century, although nothing of it now remains.

It was marked as the tower of Sanchry on Blaeu’s mid-17th century map of Caricta Borealis.

The exact location has been lost so I have placed the site of the castle at the house of Sauchie pending further research. There is a suggestion that it may have been located at Old Sauchrie (NS 3049 1524) although this appears to have been based on the name alone rather than any other evidence.
