Orchard

Twee-dail with the Sherifdome of Etterik-Forest called also Selkirk
Joan Blaeu, Amsterdam, 1654map image courtesy of NLS

A tower named Orchard is marked on both the Gordons’ and and Blaeu’s (as Orchart) mid-17th century maps. I have placed it at Orchard Mains farm for now pending further research. A short distance to the west are a couple of cottages named Orchard Walls. In the first half of the 16th century the second son of William Murray of Shillinglaw and Geilis or Gelis, daughter of William of Cockburn and Henderland, was styled Alexander Murray of Earlsorchard.
