Loch Brora

Eilean nam Faoileag is a fortified island in Loch Brora upon which the Earls of Sutherland built a castle.

The construction of the walls on the island are stylistically similar to those of Assynt Castle and are thought to date to the 17th century.

The island is thought to be at least partly artificial and may originally have been a crannog.
