Knipie

Pont 30 (back): West Water and Noran WaterTimothy Pont, c. 1583 – 1614map image courtesy of NLS

A small tower named Knepy is marked on Pont’s late 16th century map but its exact location has been lost.

Knipie is marked as a small settlement in Thomson’s Atlas of Scotland, published in 1832, but doesn’t appear to be marked on any later 19th century Ordnance Survey maps.

I’ve placed the site of the tower of Knipie at Old Derachy, which very approximately corresponds with the position of Knipie, pending further research.
