Kelhead

The Stewartrie of Annandail
Joan Blaeu, Amsterdam, 1654map image courtesy of NLS

A tower once stood at Kelhead but nothing of it now remains.

Kelhead, a possession of the Douglas family in the 17th century, appears on Blaeu’s map of 1654 as a tower named Kellhead. It has been suggested that Kelhead and Kinmount were the same place however both are marked separately on Blaeu’s map.

The exact site of the tower has been lost so for now I have placed it at the settlement of Kelhead pending further research.
