Hallyards (site of)

Hallyards is a medieval moated site that is visible on aerial photographs.

An approximately rectangular area of around 85m NNE to SSW by around 80m across is enclosed by a ditch variously described as being approximately 8.0m or 18.3m wide.

The south side of the moat doesn’t show up in cropmarks suggesting that it has been destroyed, and the entrance may have been on this side. Lighter-toned marks running along the inside of the ditch on the north, east and west sides may suggest the footings of a stone wall.
