Gormack (site of)

The lands of Gormack were a possession of the Butter family since the 12th or 13th century and may have been the site of a tower of the same name.

In 1510 Patrick Buttar or Butter of Gormack witnessed a contract between William Scott of Balwearie and John Ferguson of Downy regarding the lands of Glendowok.

In the 16th century Archibald Herring or Heryng of Drums and Wester Gormack married Margaret Anstruther, possibly a daughter of John Anstruther of Anstruther, who received a charter of the lands of Westir Drimmeis from John Stewart, 5th Earl of Atholl, in 1586.

I have placed the site of the tower at Gormack House, a 19th century mansion, pending further research.
