Darnaway Castle

Pont 8 (Moray and Nairn)
Timothy Pont, ca. 1583-1614map image courtesy of NLS

Darnawy Castle is a largely early 19th century mansion however it incorporates elements of an earlier castle.

The lands of Tarnaway were mentioned in the 13th century, and there is known to have been a castle here since at least the early 14th century.

The present house is thought to be built on the site of the earlier castle, and attached to its rear is a remodelled 15th century hall.
