The historic map is an Ordnance Survey map from 1919 to 1947, and is provided by the National Library of Scotland

Local tradition has it that there was a castle here dating back to the 14th century, and that it was home to a "Scandinavian Chief". This may suggest that it was a broch rather than a castle. The last remains of the building were removed through agricultural improvements "a few years before 1880".
