Birrens

Annandiae praefectura, Vulgo, The Stewartrie of Annandail
Joan Blaeu, Amsterdam, 1654map image courtesy of NLS

Within the Roman fort at Birrens there was a small 15th century tower house which belonged to the Carlyles.

There were occupied dwellings within the fort into the 18th century however there are no visible remains and the site is now a field.
