Scottish football

Football is the national game in Scotland, and is by far and away the most popular sport. Thousands flock to stadia all around the country at weekends to follow their team. The domestic game is dominated by Glasgow’s Old Firm - Celtic and Rangers - and has been for some time, unsurprising when their financial muscle is considered - both teams appear in the Top 20 of the world’s richest football clubs.

The Scottish national team is currently going through a period of change, following the poor results under Berti Vogts which have seen Scotland slide alarmingly down FIFA’s world rankings. However, partly as a result of a lack of money at club level, Scotland is now producing a crop of exciting young footballers who may yet go some way to restoring Scotland as a respected footballing nation, and give the world-famous Tartan Army something good to celebrate.
